Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Chiefs spent the 169th overall pick on Logan Fano, a name the board had a full 57 spots lower.
The Fields steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. More want than need.
In pick No. 29 they get a mismatch in the passing game, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Caleb Banks at the 40th pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mike Washington Jr.. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Malachi Fields all the way to slot 109, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Eli Raridon in No. 148 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Logan Fano. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nice patience on Kevin Coleman Jr., who had no business lasting to slot 176. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Keagen Trost here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
