The Chiefs clearly saw something nobody else did in Evan Stewart, taking him 31 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
On value alone, Higgins makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Sonny Styles at pick No. 64. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A real head-scratcher, Evan Stewart in No. 66 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jay Higgins at Round 3, Pick 32 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into Tez Johnson at pick 133, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Oscar Delp in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A conviction pick on Mario Williams at the 255th pick that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
