The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cam Skattebo, the No. 110 name on the board, in the 186th pick. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Sanders reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. Need was not the driver here.
A running back of that caliber at No. 44 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They liked Tai Felton enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Barrett Carter in Round 5, Pick 11 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Lathan Ransom at slot 168 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid up for Nazir Stackhouse at the 170th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Miles Frazier in pick No. 173 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cam Skattebo in pick 186 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Shilo Sanders in the 209th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A big swing on Gentry Williams at No. 247, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
