The rest of the league had time to spare on Korey Foreman; the Patriots did not wait, grabbing him 137 spots ahead at the Round 7 slot.
That Paul Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Luther Burden III at par in pick 14, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Mike Green in No. 25, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jihaad Campbell at slot 58. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nothing to complain about; Jalen Royals went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Andrew Mukuba still on the board at pick No. 104. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quinshon Judkins at the 115th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Oronde Gadsden II at Round 5, Pick 6 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Brandon Adams at the 187th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A wild overpay on Korey Foreman in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Chris Paul Jr. at pick 220 for years; that is how good the value is. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
