Somebody in the 169th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Harold Fannin Jr., the No. 21 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Ashton Jeanty in No. 8 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kenneth Grant in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Deone Walker at pick No. 113 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Deontae Lawson all the way to the 136th overall pick, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Willie Lampkin in slot 151, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Harold Fannin Jr. at Round 5, Pick 31 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
They will replay Jalen Royals at pick 170 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
