The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 105 spots for Eric Gregory, and value like that does not grow back.
Landing James that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
T.J. Sanders in No. 44 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Carson Schwesinger at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jackson Slater at slot 150 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Eric Gregory in Round 5, Pick 31 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Jordan James at the 172nd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nick Nash in slot 174 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 190th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jack Kiser at pick 211 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Tonka Hemingway at par in No. 249, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
