The war room fell hard for Cameron Ball, and it showed at pick 254: 67 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
This one needs a full-page explanation: Deontae Lawson in the 47th pick, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They will replay Germie Bernard at Round 3, Pick 14 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Davison Igbinosun at par in slot 113, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Value said wait; Taylen Green in pick No. 156 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled VJ Payne all the way to pick 214, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Wesley Williams. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cameron Ball in pick 254 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
