For all the boxes ticked, the Giants skipped the loudest one: safety is exactly as bare as it was.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jackson. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th pick they get a green-dot type in the middle. Need was not the driver here.
Omar Cooper Jr. at pick 37 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Trey Zuhn III in Round 4, Pick 20; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Dametrious Crownover at the 145th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value with a capital V on Bryce Boettcher in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Seth McGowan at No. 192 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It fills a real need, too.
Domani Jackson at slot 193 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Brandon Cleveland in pick No. 236 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
