Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Steelers were there to profit. Dae'Quan Wright, the No. 189 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 216. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
It is not that World is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The cost of the World reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 21 they get a blindside protector. Need was not the driver here.
Jacob Rodriguez at the 53rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Germie Bernard at the 76th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Treydan Stukes at slot 85 is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Darrell Jackson Jr. in pick No. 99 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jalon Kilgore slipping to No. 121 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Isaiah World in Round 4, Pick 35 leaves safety and edge rusher for later.
Drew Allar at the Round 5 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dae'Quan Wright at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Thaddeus Dixon at pick No. 224 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy little value on Kaelon Black in pick 230, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kaden Wetjen at the 237th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
