The Packers put a flag in the ground for Akheem Mesidor, 80 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
That Walker pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a true top target. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Amos at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Deone Walker in the 88th pick, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chris Paul Jr. in pick 125. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid sticker price for Jaeden Roberts in slot 154, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A real head-scratcher, Jaylin Smith in No. 199 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nohl Williams at No. 237 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for Akheem Mesidor at pick 250, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
