Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Chargers spent Round 7, Pick 36 on Zion Logue, a name the board had a full 34 spots lower. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. On value alone, Proctor makes the weekend a net positive.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A big swing on Xavier Worthy at pick No. 37, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 69 with a little surplus value in Mike Sainristil. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for MarShawn Lloyd in pick 106, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A conviction pick on Marist Liufau at slot 139 that the board grades a round light. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They reached a country mile for Drake Nugent at the 183rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Josh Proctor is a better player than the 223rd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Value said wait; Zion Logue in pick 256 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
