The Commanders did not so much draft Trey Moore as overpay for him, 160 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Henderson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Josh Conerly Jr., who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had cheaper options than Jayden Higgins at the 61st overall pick, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let a running back like TreVeyon Henderson reach No. 87 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Trey Moore at the 108th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They read the board right and Azareye'h Thomas was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 16. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for Tosh Baker at pick 146, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dayon Hayes this early at the Round 5 slot. It fills a real need, too.
