The trade table was where it all came apart. The Chargers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Chop Robinson at the 37th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Johnny Wilson in Round 3, Pick 13 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Bucky Irving at the 105th overall pick is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Roman Wilson in pick No. 112 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Tommy Eichenberg went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jaheim Bell at slot 142 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Christian Jones in the 183rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Sheridan Jones in Round 7, Pick 6, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
