They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. If Sanders pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. On value alone, Henderson makes the weekend a net positive.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 36th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Troy Fautanu in slot 40 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Johnny Wilson in pick 67 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They let TreVeyon Henderson come to them and pounced at No. 100. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 102 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylin Simpson at Round 5, Pick 5 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Jaylen Harrell at par in the 181st pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They went early on Matthew Jones in No. 223, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
