You can draft well and still miss the point. The Vikings did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Robinson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get a press-man option on the boundary, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
T'Vondre Sweat at the 56th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ray Davis. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They liked Jordan Travis enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 124. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Drake Nugent in pick No. 130, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach on Layden Robinson in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Braelon Allen slipping to Round 5, Pick 24 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nothing to complain about; Kitan Oladapo went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Isaiah Williams in No. 179 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They let Daequan Hardy come to them and pounced at the 230th pick. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
No edge and no loss on Donovan Jennings in pick 239; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
