Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B+.

The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on Bo Nix, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They are betting Baker proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Bo Nix · QB · rank 22
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get the face of the franchise. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 38
Chop Robinson at the 35th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 33
Quinyon Mitchell slid further than he should have, and pick No. 42 is lovely value for the cornerback. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 92
No drama and no debate, Bucky Irving went about where he belonged in slot 90. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Marshawn Kneeland · DE-EDGE · rank 106
Marshawn Kneeland in No. 104 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 112
They took Leonard Taylor III at par in pick 108, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 140
A premium they did not need to pay, Beaux Limmer a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · James Williams · S · rank 130
A reasonable price with a little left over, James Williams in the Round 4 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 149
Ty'Ron Hopper at No. 148 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 147
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaylin Simpson in the Round 5 slot. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Javon Baker · WR · rank 178
Javon Baker in slot 166 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Aki Ogunbiyi · OG · rank 185
No edge and no loss on Aki Ogunbiyi in pick No. 179; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · J.J. Weaver · LB-EDGE · rank 219
J.J. Weaver slipping to pick 230 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
