The phones were a trap the Commanders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
The whole projection now runs through Drake Maye; hit there and everything else looks smarter. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
They are betting Henderson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Landing Berger that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nice patience on Bralen Trice, who had no business lasting to pick 36. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kamren Kinchens at slot 40 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Edgerrin Cooper in Round 3, Pick 3. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Zak Zinter at the 100th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in pick No. 102: Jalen McMillan for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Javion Cohen in No. 140; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
LaDarius Henderson at pick No. 141 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A running back of that caliber at slot 223 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
