The Chargers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Taliese Fuaga fell into the Round 2 slot.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 21
The board had Brian Thomas Jr. higher than the 29th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 17
They will replay Taliese Fuaga at No. 37 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 45
Xavier Worthy at the 49th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.29 · Pick 61 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 57
A tidy little value on T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · D.J. James · CB · rank 67
By-the-book stuff, D.J. James at pick 69 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.36 · Pick 99 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 95
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tykee Smith in pick No. 99. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Donovan Edwards · RB · rank 102
A clean, defensible pick in slot 105 with a little surplus value in Donovan Edwards. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.14 · Pick 114 · Donovan Jackson · OG · rank 116
They took Donovan Jackson at par in Round 4, Pick 14, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.15 · Pick 115 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 114
Junior Colson in pick No. 115 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 124
Fair-plus on Cam Hart, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.6 · Pick 142 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 145
Theo Johnson in the 142nd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 182
They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in slot 183, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
