For all the boxes ticked, the Giants skipped the loudest one: safety is exactly as bare as it was. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Landing Suamataia that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Graham Barton in the 39th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Ja'Tavion Sanders at No. 47 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy little value on Denzel Burke in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Kingsley Suamataia slid further than he should have, and pick No. 70 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Mekhi Wingo come to them and pounced at the 86th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Max Melton in Round 4, Pick 7; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fair-plus on Shemar Turner, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Sam Hartman at No. 185 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Aki Ogunbiyi is a better player than slot 191 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
