The Chargers lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Stogner at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
Good price on Marvin Harrison Jr. in No. 6, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
In the 31st overall pick they get a load in the middle, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jordan Morgan in pick No. 37 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Bralen Trice here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nothing to complain about; Jonathon Brooks went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and Cooper Beebe was the payoff at pick 94. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Mike Sainristil was still sitting there in pick 105, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 6, with James Williams worth more than the price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
LaDarius Henderson at No. 183 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: Austin Stogner at the 226th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
