If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Vikings, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They will answer for taking cornerback early while tight end went begging. The Henderson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The cost of the Nugent reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Terrion Arnold in No. 25 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor itch, scratched.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jonah Elliss in the Round 2 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach on T'Vondre Sweat in slot 52; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Jonathon Brooks in pick No. 57; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Braden Fiske at the 84th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Zak Zinter at Round 3, Pick 33 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jacob Cowing slipping to the Round 4 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A want over a need in No. 125: Johnny Dixon adds a cornerback while tight end keeps waiting.
Drake Nugent at the 130th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Joe Milton III in slot 148; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A slide stopped in pick No. 160, with Keith Randolph Jr. worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They did well to land Kitan Oladapo in the 166th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
LaDarius Henderson at Round 6, Pick 4 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Joshua Cephus at pick 230, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
