You build a draft on nights like this. Nicholas Singleton had no business being available in slot 171, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Marvin Harrison Jr. pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jahdae Barron and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Omarion Hampton at Round 2, Pick 13 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Tyleik Williams reach slot 76 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Lathan Ransom here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They barely believed it either: Chris Paul Jr. still on the board at No. 170. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Nicholas Singleton in the 171st pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Nazir Stackhouse at the 189th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Miles Frazier in pick 209, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jordan White slipping to pick No. 248 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
