The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The Hall pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
The Cohen value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th pick they get a long-term answer under center, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Byron Murphy II. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nothing to complain about; Jamari Thrash went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
They took Max Melton at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Darius Robinson in Round 4, Pick 30 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Braelon Allen at the 148th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Sincere Haynesworth in pick No. 160 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Javion Cohen slipping to pick 166 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Gabe Hall in No. 179 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Sheridan Jones at Round 7, Pick 10. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
