Minnesota Vikings

Best value of the weekend goes to the Vikings for Magee: B+.

Future B

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Vikings came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Jefferson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 32
In No. 28 they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 40
A straight-up fair deal on Byron Murphy II at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 44
They paid sticker price for J.J. McCarthy in slot 43, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 57
Value with a capital V on Chris Braswell in pick 66, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Jamari Thrash · WR · rank 92
Jamari Thrash slid further than he should have, and the 108th pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 107
They took Jaden Hicks at par in Round 4, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 144
A reach for Beaux Limmer in No. 130; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 155
Braelon Allen in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 151
Jaylin Simpson is a better player than the 160th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 181
A reach on Jordan Jefferson in pick No. 166; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 163
The board had LaDarius Henderson higher than Round 6, Pick 4, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Jordan Magee · LB · rank 202
Jordan Magee at the 225th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Jawhar Jordan · RB · rank 209
Jawhar Jordan in slot 230 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
