You build a draft on nights like this. Pat Bryant had no business being available in Round 6, Pick 28, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Adding Jordan Addison by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 17th pick they get a bell-cow for the offense, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
JT Tuimoloau at slot 44 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jihaad Campbell slipping to No. 49 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Donovan Jackson in pick No. 106 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kyle McCord at Round 5, Pick 33 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A clean, defensible pick in the 174th overall pick with a little surplus value in Quincy Riley. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 204 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking JJ Pegues in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Oronde Gadsden II at Round 7, Pick 23 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Clay Webb in the 247th pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
