This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Trevor Keegan, the No. 144 name on the board, stolen at Round 6, Pick 21. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
If Davis pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher and tight end went begging.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Javon Bullard at the 41st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at slot 58. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for Jermaine Burton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A curious use of pick 99. Edge rusher and tight end needed the pick; a safety in Renardo Green did not.
A wild overpay on Isaiah Davis in pick No. 126, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 18: Mason McCormick for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: James Williams still on the board at the Round 5 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They will replay Trevor Keegan at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They went early on Myles Harden in Round 6, Pick 27, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Fabien Lovett at the 219th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Garret Greenfield in slot 245 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Austin Reed in the 255th pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
