The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, the No. 195 name on the board, sitting there at No. 245 like a gift left on the doorstep.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. With tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
They are betting Lee proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Nothing to complain about; DJ James went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Jaylen Wright in Round 3, Pick 4, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jonah Elliss at No. 88 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jaden Hicks in the 90th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
By-the-book stuff, Dominick Puni at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cedric Gray in slot 103 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Fair-plus on Blake Fisher, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking James Williams at linebacker with tight end open.
Isaac Guerendo in No. 126 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Jarrian Jones at par in pick 137, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Tykee Smith in the 162nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Dwight McGlothern at slot 169 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on Logan Lee in the 194th pick; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joe Milton III. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Jha'Quan Jackson was still sitting there in pick No. 219, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The roster fit checks out.
