After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The final tally is a middling C.
They are betting Bortolini proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
So much rides on Drake Maye that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Khyree Jackson in slot 108. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid sticker price for Will Shipley in pick 130, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, Justin Rogers a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Austin Booker in the Round 5 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
