The Packers did not so much draft Isaiah Davis as overpay for him, 29 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Oladapo. It is not that Green is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in No. 41. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good price on Junior Colson in Round 2, Pick 26, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Nothing to complain about; Calen Bullock went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, cornerback and other spots still to address, they spent pick 91 on Renardo Green, a safety they were not short of.
Isaiah Davis in pick No. 126 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kitan Oladapo slipping to pick 169 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A reach on Garret Greenfield in the 202nd pick; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Drake Nugent in the Round 6 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Austin Reed well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let Jalen Sundell come to them and pounced at the 255th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
