The Commanders treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 79 on Antwaun Powell-Ryland a full 82 spots early. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had Tre Harris higher than Round 2, Pick 29, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at the 79th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Emery Jones Jr. was still sitting there in pick No. 148, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Dorian Strong in the 207th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ollie Gordon II in pick 238 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ty Hamilton at slot 250 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
