Nobody had Tommi Hill this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 51 spots to get him at the 106th overall pick. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Getting Wilson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Colston Loveland at the 38th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Elic Ayomanor at pick 69 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dylan Sampson in the 77th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Tommi Hill at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They will replay Jared Wilson at Round 5, Pick 6 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Akili Arnold at par in No. 217, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They barely believed it either: Jay Higgins still on the board at the 220th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They read the board right and Jermari Harris was the payoff at slot 238. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
