The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: Javon Foster, the No. 131 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 5 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. The Smith pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kiran Amegadjie in slot 64 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Maason Smith in pick No. 95 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They did well to land Jalyx Hunt in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Javon Foster at the 159th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Josh Newton at the 173rd pick for years; that is how good the value is. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Garret Greenfield in pick 221 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
