Everything else got attention, and tight end got none. That is a strange way for the Chiefs to leave a draft.
However the rest shakes out, Barrett at that price is a win they earned. The Hopper reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Value with a capital V on Adisa Isaac in Round 2, Pick 32, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Christian Mahogany went about where he belonged in the 95th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaylin Simpson at No. 132 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Luke McCaffrey in the 159th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the Round 5 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Michael Barrett in pick No. 252 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
