The trade table was a mismatch, and the Browns were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. They banked enough surplus on Bernard to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The Christian Gonzalez pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. Need was not the driver here.
Akheem Mesidor in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Gennings Dunker in the 49th overall pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Germie Bernard at the 70th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They read the board right and Chandler Rivers was the payoff at No. 107. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Jaeden Roberts went about where he belonged in slot 146. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cade Klubnik slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 9 is lovely value for the quarterback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took David Gusta at par in pick No. 206, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They let Jaydn Ott come to them and pounced at pick 248. A need, and now a little less of one.
