The war room fell hard for Jaheim Bell, and it showed at pick No. 67: 73 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Johnson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Troy Fautanu at Round 2, Pick 4. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick 40 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaheim Bell well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Christian Mahogany at No. 100 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Tykee Smith went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board had MarShawn Lloyd higher than Round 5, Pick 5, and the running back fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Cedric Johnson at No. 181 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Brian Ugwu at the 223rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
