The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The cost of the Thomas reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

In the 6th pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
They went early on Patrick Paul in the 34th overall pick, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
A conviction pick on Ja'Lynn Polk at slot 47 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Sedrick Van Pran at No. 68 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Matt Goncalves at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ben Sinnott at pick No. 139 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Frank Gore Jr. slipping to pick 182 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Zakhari Franklin at Round 7, Pick 4 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
