The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The Okie-Anoma reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Getting Harris where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Xavier Legette in No. 34 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at slot 68, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Brenden Rice at the 103rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Marist Liufau at pick 137 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Trevor Keegan in pick No. 180, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Marcus Harris in Round 6, Pick 18 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Eyabi Okie-Anoma in the Round 7 slot, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
