The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Anderson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Patrick Paul in pick 39 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Fair-plus on Ja'Tavion Sanders, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They went early on Roman Wilson in the 73rd pick, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Ray Davis in pick No. 103; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Kamal Hadden in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Ethan Driskell at slot 182 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Myles Cole in the 224th overall pick, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Evan Anderson at the 232nd pick, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
