They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
If Randolph Jr. pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Bertrand value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Ladd McConkey at Round 2, Pick 2 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Legette in No. 38; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Patrick Paul in pick No. 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good price on Cam Hart in the 103rd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Kitan Oladapo in pick 137 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Cody Schrader went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Keith Randolph Jr. at slot 193 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value with a capital V on JD Bertrand in the 231st overall pick, a genuine coup. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
