They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They banked enough surplus on James to cover a lot of smaller sins. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
The Paul reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
They took Jordan Morgan at par in Round 2, Pick 4, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached a country mile for Patrick Paul at the 40th pick, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick 47 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Cooper Beebe at the 67th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Adisa Isaac in No. 78 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking DJ James in slot 100 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jalyx Hunt in the Round 5 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nehemiah Pritchett at the 152nd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steele Chambers in pick 222 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
