They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
Adonai Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 2 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cooper DeJean slipping to pick No. 38 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Kingsley Suamataia at pick 68 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy little value on Jalen McMillan in the 103rd overall pick, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Beau Brade in No. 137. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nothing to complain about; Tommy Eichenberg went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They went early on Cornelius Johnson in the 180th pick, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Jared Wiley at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
