The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Chris Paul Jr., the No. 119 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 221 like a gift left on the doorstep.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Desmond King II deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
