It is the swing that defines the weekend: Clark Barrington in the Round 7 slot, a good 96 spots before the room expected him. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Dixon value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most. Easton Stick gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They went early on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in slot 56, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dominick Puni. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Isaiah Davis at pick 174 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Johnny Dixon in Round 7, Pick 13 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Josh Proctor in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Clark Barrington in the 253rd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
