San Francisco 49ers

Grand theft in pick 120: the 49ers steal Bernard and grade out a B.

When a board-topper like Germie Bernard slides to Round 4, Pick 20, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

If Moore pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.15 · Pick 47 · Christen Miller · DL · rank 56
A reach on Christen Miller in the 47th pick; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · Emmanuel McNeil-Warren · S · rank 51
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick No. 62 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Ted Hurst · WR · rank 89
No edge and no loss on Ted Hurst in the 84th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Sam Roush · TE · rank 93
Taking Sam Roush in Round 4, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Jude Bowry · OT · rank 128
They liked Jude Bowry enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 113. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Germie Bernard · WR · rank 58
The board fumbled Germie Bernard all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Malik Muhammad · CB · rank 99
They will replay Malik Muhammad at pick 127 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Trey Moore · LB-EDGE · rank 178
Trey Moore at slot 133 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
R4.38 · Pick 138 · Kaleb Proctor · DL · rank 134
Kaleb Proctor in slot 138 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.39 · Pick 139 · Beau Stephens · OG · rank 158
A wild overpay on Beau Stephens in the 139th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.38 · Pick 254 · Kaden Wetjen · WR · rank 221
Circle this one: Kaden Wetjen at the 254th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
