When a board-topper like Germie Bernard slides to Round 4, Pick 20, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
If Moore pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
A reach on Christen Miller in the 47th pick; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick No. 62 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No edge and no loss on Ted Hurst in the 84th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Sam Roush in Round 4, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They liked Jude Bowry enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 113. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Germie Bernard all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Malik Muhammad at pick 127 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Trey Moore at slot 133 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Kaleb Proctor in slot 138 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Beau Stephens in the 139th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Kaden Wetjen at the 254th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
