Washington Commanders

Quarterback settled, Nix in the fold, and a B+ for the Commanders.

The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Bo Nix, and the whole operation now runs on his development. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Reaching for Barrett left real value on the table behind him. However the rest shakes out, Corley at that price is a win they earned.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.5 · Pick 5 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 10
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.29 · Pick 29 · Bo Nix · QB · rank 24
In pick No. 29 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 38
Quinyon Mitchell in pick 34 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 47
The board had cheaper options than Ja'Tavion Sanders at the 36th overall pick, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 31
Troy Franklin at the 40th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.29 · Pick 61 · Adisa Isaac · DE-EDGE · rank 69
They paid a round early for Adisa Isaac in No. 61, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 61
Fair-plus on Edgerrin Cooper, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 92
A wild overpay on Sedrick Van Pran in Round 3, Pick 4, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 72
Byron Murphy II in Round 3, Pick 5 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Malachi Corley · WR · rank 86
A tidy bit of business in slot 100, where Malachi Corley graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 107
They paid sticker price for Blake Fisher in No. 102, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · James Williams · S · rank 129
A slide stopped in pick No. 140, with James Williams worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 142
No drama and no debate, Javion Cohen went about where he belonged in pick 141. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 192
Michael Barrett at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Zion Tupuola-Fetui · DE-EDGE · rank 182
No edge and no loss on Zion Tupuola-Fetui in the 181st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 238
They liked Cody Schrader enough to skip the value, taking him in the 223rd overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
