After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Devonshire. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
Every board in the league had All lower, and that gap is the story.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In slot 23 they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Braden Fiske in Round 2, Pick 20 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in the 119th pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Isaac Guerendo in pick 129 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Johnny Wilson all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Xavier Thomas in pick No. 167 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Erick All in pick No. 177 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ty'Ron Hopper at Round 6, Pick 3 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 195 with a little surplus value in Tahj Washington. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
M.J. Devonshire at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They will replay Trente Jones at the 232nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jordan Magee slid further than he should have, and slot 234 is lovely value for the linebacker. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
