Thirty-one other rooms let Cam Skattebo slide, and the Bears were the ones holding the card at the 193rd overall pick. Highway robbery.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Myles Garrett deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Steal is underselling it; Malaki Starks at slot 39 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Tyler Booker at the 64th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Dylan Sampson in Round 3, Pick 2 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Deone Walker reach No. 94 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jake Majors at the 100th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jared Wilson in pick 147 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Cam Skattebo at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy little value on Clay Webb in pick No. 240, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
