When a board-topper like Dont'e Thornton Jr. slides to the Round 7 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Myles Garrett deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had Xavier Watts higher than Round 2, Pick 29, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Elic Ayomanor slid further than he should have, and pick No. 67 is lovely value for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quinshon Judkins slipping to the 79th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on Charles Grant, who had no business lasting to No. 112. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cobee Bryant in the 207th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in slot 238 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
