The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Ryan Fitzgerald slide 130 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The cost of the Truss reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Myles Garrett deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Jalon Walker in No. 63 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They will replay Isaiah Bond at slot 79 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quinshon Judkins in the 146th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a linebacker like Carson Schwesinger reach Round 5, Pick 27 and blink. They did not. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They robbed the room for Jake Majors here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Hayden Conner at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Xavier Truss in pick No. 236 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Ryan Fitzgerald at the 247th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
