When a board-topper like Jake Slaughter slides to No. 92, you do not overthink it, and the Rams did not.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Thomas reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The Rams paired the rookies with proven help, Myles Garrett leading the way.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Dillon Thieneman in pick No. 39 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jake Slaughter at pick 92 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tacario Davis in the Round 4 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Isaiah World in slot 152 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Ar'maj Reed-Adams at par in Round 5, Pick 30, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They jumped the gun on Zavion Thomas, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jimmy Rolder at the 232nd pick is the proof. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Josh Cuevas at No. 251. It fills a real need, too.
Fair-plus on Miller Moss, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nothing to complain about; Barion Brown went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
